Event Planning for Less Waste!

Event Planning for Less Waste!

We specialise in helping companies create brand name events in Singapore and in the region. With countless events organised every year and burgeoning attendee rates and engagements, we noticed that it is easy to fall into the trap of the wasting resources. From the beginning stages of planning to cleaning up after the event, there are little things you can do to create an environmentally-friendly practice in event planning. In honour of World Environment Day this June, we are here to share some ways to be mindful of the earth when organising events!

  1. Reuse materials and decorations
  • Be mindful of all the materials you choose to use for an event. A good way to ensure you can be resourceful is to think of how you can reuse each decoration or item after the event is over.
  1. Leftovers?
  • If only it were possible to know the perfect amount of food for every event, but unfortunately, that’s not the case. As an event planner, you would always prefer having too much food versus too little, but what about the leftovers? Whether it’s sending extra food home with attendees or finding a food bank that accepts the food you have, try to avoid wasting it. By doing this, you’re not only helping the environment, but you’re providing someone with a free meal!
  1. Encourage public transportation
  • With Singapore being such a hustlin’ and bustlin’ place, we are fortunate to have such amazing public transportation. Use this to your advantage! Encourage attendees of your events to use public transportation versus driving a car.
  1. Work with certified vendors
  • Something you can keep an eye out for is certified vendors and venues. There are many different certifications that companies can achieve for their push towards helping the environment. For example, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a certification awarded to buildings for strategically putting efforts towards creating a sustainable space. A LEED certified building would be a great place to host an event!
  1. Digital tickets
  • Long are the days of printing out tickets! With smartphones and online registration sites, it is so easy to register your event online and allow attendees to sign up through there. At Eminence Events, we utilise Eventbrite which sends guests their ticket digitally and allows us to easily check them in either by the QR code they are given or by searching them on our own devices. Best part is these sites also offer insights about attendance at your event!
